Very clean looking 510, maybe was 500 originally, and jointer for $250; was listed at $800 a couple days ago. Denison TX. https://texoma.craigslist.org/tls/d/den ... 14275.html

This is a fairly good looking 10ER with a typical price of $250 on Craig's List. The collection of lathe tools looks interesting though, if they're high enough quality this makes it a very good deal. If someone recognizes those chisels please provide some info, I'm tempted to get that machine for the chisels and move the rest of it along at a low price.

Ed,

I have a feeling those are not expensive/premium chisels. At first, the long ones reminded me of the Harbor Freight HSS chisels I bought ~15 years ago, currently selling as a set of 8 for ~$80, but don't think they are those as the handles are different and don't see good markings on the clean tools; IMHO, they are decent tools, the metal is a bit harder than the early 80s SS set. I zoomed way in and believe I see "HSS" on the 3rd and maybe the 7th long tools, but both markings appear to be off center and low quality, maybe done by hand with a sharpie.

Looking around at better brands with dark handles, I'd expect to see one or more attributes of handle decoration and/or marking, crisp blade marking, and/or thick ferrules. Also, looking at the blades near the handles, these have abrupt transitions whereas better quality seem to have smooth transitions, such as this Henry Taylor set: https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/to ... em=58B1901.

I can't find any lathe chisels with the sort of ferrules that cover then end as is on the short tools.

My guess is that these are inexpensive chineseum tools, that new today would be in $5-15 range each, and may even be made from decent HSS. Based on that assumption and used, if I needed several of those, I would probably not want to pay more than $50-75 for all of them.

Thanks Roy, I'll let that one go by. Still might be a decent deal for someone who needs the whole machine.

Yeah, if it was near me I'd have it loaded up already at that price. Well I would have up to earlier this year when I decided not to buy any more cheap Shopsmiths if they didn't have parts I needed. After picking up a machine with an aluminum bandsaw table and a strip sander with the curved platen I think I'm all set now.
