I know it's just a pen, but as my first time turning anything and my first project on my Shopsmith I was pretty thrilled.

Nice job on a first pen. Transition from wood to pen parts looks very good. What pen kit is it? What kind of wood? What is the finish? You are now hooked on pens and related items.

Now you have made the first you will not want to stop. I have made about 15 and gave them all away.

Thanks guys. It's a slimline pen with gold accents from PSI. I bought a big kit through their Amazon store to get me started. They were nice enough to replace the standard mandrel with one made for the Shopsmith and I added a pen mandrel center. The wood is Rosewood I sanded through 600 grit and then used EEE-Ultra Shine Paste cut and wax. Finished with Shellawax Cream friction polish.

I really enjoyed it and can't wait to learn more about turning.

Nice work! I may try my hand at it soon. About how much do you need to invest to get started, with mandrel, finishes, etc. ?
