I just got a E-mail for Hartville hardware in Ohio. They are offering a new base for routers that looks good.

Just looking at the new base video I can see about four jigs in my shop that could be eliminated by the base.
Also I would think this would be a great for someone that doesn't have a router table.

What do you guys think?

I got one about a year ago from Rockler, they had a great sale on them. M-power added a couple of features since my purchase. I've used it on my both my Bosch 1617 EVS PK and DeWalt DWP 611 PK.

I've used 3 features. Edge routing to have move weight/force on the stock and away from the edge. Using an axillary fence to route away from the edge. The micro adjust to change a cut/position a cut.

It all works as advertised, based on my experience. Switching between routers, is like a SS, yet another set-up to do.

Although it's, IMHO, pretty well made the movements of adjusting hasn't been 'smooth'. Maybe I should get out the Johnson's Paste Wax. The plastic base is the weakest point literally and figuratively. The edge of the plastic is very sharp so when routing it can can catch any surface that isn't really flat and smooth.

It 's always in the my van if I go out on a job, because it is handy.

I too have one of those and have had it for a few years now. Mine too is the older model that lacks some of the refinements they have since added.

I got this to go with my DeWalt compact router, this is a pretty good combination and I have never attemped to use a full size router so I can't speek to that.

BTW we have talked about this before here on the forum but I was unable to find the thread. Could well have been where we got off on a tanget from another subject. I also seem to recall have submitted photos of it in one of my project threads.... yea can't find that either.

Make sure that the router you have is on the list of ones it fits. The newer one looks like they may have changed things so it will fit more routers but I would check anyway.

If it works that well why do they use a digitally created video for a demonstration rather than showing the unit as it works? One reason. It sells and doesn't raise questions until after you purchase it. Then the complexity of operation arises. Much like the digitally created aircraft, tanks, helicopters and other devices in the movies. They look good but don't ever work as described. My opinion is that if you can't see it as it really works then it doesn't work that way and is way more complicated than how they advertise.

Never believe the advertisers or the recruiters. There job is to sell and not deliver what they promised you. Some of you may remember the USA or USMC recruiters in the 60s: "Just sign up and we can guarantee you the school of your choice after you finish Basic or Boot Camp." No matter what the school of your choice was it became Viet Nam. Advertisers, recruiters and liars have become so much more sophisticated and tech savvy in the past 50 years.

Unless they can demonstrate in real life how it works, don't fall for it. That goes for your political choice in elections also.

I have no love for advertisement! However I believe there are more than one kind of advertisement. One that is honest, yes it is trying to convince you that you need the product but it is completely honest about the capabilities of the product.

The second kind of advertisement is dishonest, again they are trying to convince you that you need the product but they lie doing it and fabricate lies about the capabilities of the product.

The third kind of advertisement is equally dishonest, but here they never really mention the product or it's capabilities but rather aim at getting a reaction from the listener.

This is the car commercial that is filled with beautiful people doing wonderful things.

They never show the haggard mother covered with melting snow taking the kids to school as she tries pushing the car out of the snow drift.

I don't know the capabilities of this product and that is why I posted it here. From the feedback it sounds like everyone that has one likes it. So I have to conclude the ad for this product is true and honest.

Oh by the way it is on sale again for $89.90 but I did not compair what each contains or add in any tax or shipping costs.

Oh ye of little faith:

1- The reason they use digital presentation is simple: It’s cheaper than hiring actors, camera people, using real wood, etc., etc.

2- A long-standing rule of thumb embraced by most advertising agencies is that we can spread the word, we can get ’em to take notice, we can encourage, even convince ’em to buy it, but the product takes over from there. If it isn’t up to the standard promised the product is sure to go the way of the Dodo. People don’t buy products that other people complain about.

Because it’s bad for everyone’s image all around most reputable ad agencies won’t do work to sell products that they don’t like themselves. They tend to conduct tests of the product and, if needed, will advise the client (the advertiser) whatever that testing suggests needs to be corrected, if not removed from public offer altogether.

Hmm. Watched the video, and noticed a link to another video for-of TREND MACHINERY which appears to be nearly identical. Now I'm suspicious.
Btw, does England have same copyright regs as we?
