Confused on what Shopsmith I own...

Hello,
New member, long time reader.
Great information on this site!!!

After scouring the internet researching all things Mark V I have a question.

My new to me ShopSmith has a serial # beginning with 311, a single bearing quill, a GE 3/4 HP motor with the cup and spring setup and is painted grey. My headstock has the access hole on the side and 1 screw and washer holding in the eccentric bushing. Has the Gilmer drive as well.

Per ShopSmith serial number chart, the type of motor and single bearing quill mine looks to be a 1955 but the color looks identical to a picture I saw of a 1984 Mark V?? Maybe that picture was repainted with something someone liked and was a close color to a ShopSmith year.

Now I can assume mine has been repainted but not sure. Some of the grey is faded and a "close to original green" color is showing.

Is it possible (I know anything's possible) someone rebuilt it with some newer and some older ShopSmith parts?

Also looking at a 1986 ShopSmith. What would fit assuming mine is mostly 1955? I have read the motor changed to a 1 1/8HP, the Poly V drive belt came into play, etc. among other things.

Mine's in great shape but replacing all bearings (they are pretty gunked up and rough riding) and restoring.

Sorry for bombarding you all with a lot of questions but curious.

Thanks,

I'm assuming you mean SPT's? They will fit. Along with a PowerPro Headstock upgrade, but KNOT to a two bearing quill, unless ya SPEND about $600.00.

sorry no pictures.
Mine is all apart and paint mostly stripped off.
I have some pictures I took while tearing apart but nothing as a whole.
I know...should have.

Haven't seen the 1986 one. Just heard about it.

Yes, mainly SPT's.

Thanks for the information.
