Restore Points in win XP: and 7

A current thread brought to the surface a nagging question I have.

Under XP Pro one can force multiple restore points at will(like before installing something).

I have not(hopefully yet) uncovered a way to do the same with Win 7.

Restore displays a page with capacity for multiple restore snapshots and a link for help selecting one.

That page only displays the last auto backup.

I am referring to system recover, not computer backup restore.

Any hints?

On Windows 7 it is on the right of the screen, if touch screen you can swipe from edge inward and it will slide out. If no touch screen move mouse to top right corner and move it down and it will slide out.
