Hello, I am new to the forum and looking for help. I've been asked to sell this shopsmith that was donated to my parents church. I need help coming up with a fair value to ask for it.
Details: Mark V 50th anniversary, #1 accessory pack, model #555861, year 2001. Although it is a 2001 it is in boxes brand new never used and never unpacked. All manuals and instructional videos are there. Sales receipt shows total paid with tax is $2566.92.

Can you post a picture or two ? Where are you located ? Maybe we have someone nearby that can help.

I can post some pics tonight. other than the main unit everything else is still in boxes. I opened one box last night just looking for the manuals. I'm located in upstate NY about 30 min. north of Syracuse.

I'd think that a good asking price would be $1595.00.
I wouldn't negotiate any lower than $1200.
You might put it on Craigs list at that price (for the church) and give the location details. Might bring in more interested buyers.

I appreciate the help. I plan to advertise on craigslist and just need a price to start out with.

Just to give you some hints and ideas.

1) The Mark 5 comes in several flavors, 500, 510 and 520. The price differ very much, being the 520 model the best one.

2) Location is important because shipping could be cumbersome. Local craigslist adds will work if somebody is willing to go and pick it up and that limits the price due to potential very low demand.

3) I have purchased splendid units in my area (NY-CT) from 100 to 700 dollars with plenty accessories and in great shape.

What is shown in the following link is not exactly what you have to offer but it should give you a pretty good idea of value. I, personally, would rather have what you have than this reconditioned unit. Yours appears to be NEW while being several years old.

In addition to the 500, 510 and 520 there is also a 505. This is why we need pictures if available (even pictures of the boxes may help).

Just a note - The only difference between a 510 and a 520 is the rip fence and the "rails" on the front and back of the tables that the fence slides (adjusts), and tightens onto.

The 510 has round tubes for "rails" while the 520 has angular extruded rails. The 520 rip fence is wider and heavier and has two levers to fasten the fence to the "rails".

In 2001, I doubt you have a 505.

Yes, I doubt that some one buying an anniversary model would chose a 505 but the only difference between a 505 and a 510 is the number of tables (floating and extension). Certainly could be.

I hope, for wbenedis' sake, he has a 520.

How much should it be depreciated? Assuming it is a new in the box 2001 Mark V Model 520 (13 years old), I believe it is worth what was paid for it when it was new....depreciation simply being offset by inflation.

If someone offered me my 1966 Plymouth Barracuda new in the box for its original sticker price $2600.00) I'd write that check immediately.:rolleyes:
