The way I want to set up #2 has the belt sander on the left and the jigsaw on the right. Will it matter? I can't think of a reason it would unless there is a factory spec required direction. mt-- I am leaving this up for your laughter -a laugh a day.....

No...this was mentioned in another thread some time back. The jigsaw will run on either side. Now, where do you want to stand to use the sander may be the issue.

Thanks Doc. The sander is a oneway unit as far as my experience with several of them in my past. Standing at the operator's side of the SS, it is to my left and rotates toward me. I think I recall a photo in PTWE- I will go double check.mt

One other observation is that the belt sander has an output shaft that you can mount a sanding drum or drill chuck to hold smaller sanders. This same shaft can also be used as the drive shaft for the sander if you want ot mount it on the right side of the headstock. However, I do not believe that the stock mounting tubes are long enough to allow the shaft to align with the quill.

The question of which side of the Mark V to use is a good question, no laughter here because I was thoroughly disgusted with my bandsaw.

Until I put it on the "left" side of the Mark V.
I just keept thinking the previous owner had bought aftermarket blades that didn't work in the proper direction.
Finally I decided to watch a sawdust session on the bandsaw and I looked at the picture in the accessory catelog, Hello Pinkie, they were always on the "left".
I recently inquired about a manual for the Jigsaw, and I'm thinking I need a newer one for the bandsaw too.
Unfortunately I have to play the EBay game for the Jigsaw manual.
Anyone know if SS sells the Jigsaw blades?

The jigsaw/scroll saw can operate on either end of the Shopsmith. Where you want to stand is up to you.

The belt sander can be operated on either end by switching the drive couplin to the other side. The belt sander drive shaft is the same on both sides.

The MINI does not allow enough room for the belt sander on the right side. That was one of many reasons I started doing the SHORTY version. It supports the conical sanding disk and the 500 main table. The belt sander will operate on either end also.

I had a similar problem. The teeth on the bandsaw blade was pointing backwards when I tried to use it. Luckly someone was near and told me to just flip the bandsaw blade. Now the teeth went in the proper direction.

The jigsaw blades are 5" non-pinned blades (flat ends) available at Lowes and almost any hardware store. I have even cut the pins off the pinned ones and used them.

Bill, you must be joking with us. Flip blade, mount bandsaw in right power mount and hold on tight to the stock. LOL

Some days, it is my mind that is backwards. You are right. You would have to hold on real tight. I actually have done or think about most of my answers but off the top of my head is not always where it comes from. Thanks for the response.
