Anyone got creative with this? I have been looking for a SS planer but I now give up. Missed out on a few. Oh well. One SS stays in TS and jointer set up. The other is BS and sander so I will have some tube space. Wondering if anyone has come up with a creative/productive way to mount it to the SS on the free space other then drill appropriately spaced holes in 2 pieces of 4x4.

Although I think is possible to mount a lunchbox planer to boards and attach those boards using clamps to the way tubes, I believe this not to be very feasible.

A better solution is to build a small table/stand to hold your planer.

Why not feasible. I don't really want to have another table to move around and space is on the tubes. Is this a bad idea?

Check for proper direction of rotation. If you put the planer on the opposite end and turn it around so that the drive sleeve will face the headstock the rotation will be reversed.

Sorrrry You did say a "lunch box " planer and nothing I posted will apply!!!! Check Doug Reid's site http://shopsmithwoodworker.com/ to see how he mounted his chop saw to the way tubes. Maybe you can use his method.

I recall seeing a post where someone put their lunchbox-style planer on the main table and uses the auxiliary table as outfeed support, so building a platform to rest it on the tubes surely can be done.

I would not do that because my planer is heavy as heck (92 pounds) and I don't want to put that kind of stress on the table or way tubes and I don't want to have to try to horse such a heavy object up on top of the Shopsmith.

I built a simple rolling cart to hold it. It is hardly bigger than the planer's footprint and while it does take up space you can offset that by building in storage. Mine has a drawer and cabinet space that holds my small compressor and accessories. One of the most useful projects I have done and it taught me how to build drawers and cabinet doors.

I found that! Thanks. I mount it more securely. Not decided yet. Of course easy removability is a plus

I have my lunchbox style planer firmly attached to one end of my mobile storage unit. As you can see the storage unit is a SS base unit. When I use the planer I just swing the end of the unit away from the wall and I'm good to go.
