My 16 year old decided to surprise me by disassembling our shopsmith bandsaw cleaning, painting the case, and reassembling!! Obviously I can't get too pissed, he meant well, however after reassembling the entire unit, I have a left over part it is a thin brass piece that's dimensions are 2.6" x 0.75" x 0.003" with bends at each end of 0.12"!!
Where does this piece go??

It looks homemade. My hunch is that it is a custom shim that was made to remove slop between the "Blade guide column post" and the "Guide column bracket". The tabs at the ends would fit around the top & bottom of the bracket to keep it in place.

Newer SS bandsaws have a nylon bolt that threads through the side of the "Guide column bracket", making the lateral clearance adjustable. My bandsaw is older, and does not have the nylon bolt. So when reconditioning it, I used persuasion from a bench vise to tighten up the channel in the bracket. The brass shim is a better idea.

The "Guide block spring" in the photo below has the same configuration. In fact, at first that's what I thought your mystery part was. But using the miter slot in your photo for scale, your brass part is obviously much larger, and also thinner.

Edit: Yep, I just noticed that you had given the dimensions of your part, so I went and measured my bracket. Looks like should fit just right.

That was one hell of a call!!

Wasn't sure about installing on the outside or inside edge of the gaurd, but installed on the outside edge, fit perfectly!
