Mark VII Base Assembly Breakdown

Starting disassembly of the base. It is essentially all formed sheet metal except for the casters assembly and hardware.

Disassembly was mostly straight forward so little is pictured here showing how it was taken apart. The sequence and hardware details are pictured. The hardware serves mainly to help later with reassembly.

The rear panel with the hose port is secured with two plastic thumb screws.

The front panel is secured with the small screws.

All 4 screws for the rear and front panels screw into tinnerman nuts.

The tilt brackets are secured with 2 screws etc. through the top, and one screw etc. through the side at both ends. The flat washers were on top, but the manual places them below. That helps distribute the stress from the nut to the inside sheet metal.

The top is attached to the sides by no less that 16 screws etc. Here is one from one corner.

A PO apparently drilled the two 'extra' holes. Not sure why since they are on the back side.

The vertical clamp hardware inside is missing a washer. It does not work well without it.

The clamp and hardware. The nut seems to be a jamming thread nut which makes sense.

The vertical sides are secured by three screws at each corner to the bottom rails.

I left one screw in each corner until the bottom rails were ready to be removed.

The endcaps were the reason for leaving the sides attached. I feared the small screws might be stubborn to remove.

They came out fairly easily.

The vertical support screws had jam nuts which allowed height adjustment.

Six screws attach both the caster base and the end cap to the bottom rails.

The caster retains the piston in the base.

I anticipated getting the cams all the way across the shaft would be a problem. Fortunately that was not the case(a little stubborn, but not difficult).

Notice the set screw is a half dog that goes into a shallow hole in the shaft. Set screws? Where have I seen that before?

I initially considered replacing the 'top hat' retainer on the end of the shaft, but now think that unnecessary.

The worst rust is on the bottom edge of the end caps. It is not all that bad there! Not sure it is visible on this pix.

Last those 4 screws attaching the vertical sides are removed and the bottom rails removed.

Having the vertical sides raise the bottom rails off the ground was a great benefit.

I was initially concerned at the ability of the end caps to hold it all together during disassembly of the casters etc., but with those 6 screws underneath, that concern was not justified.

This concludes breakdown except for the 'correct' quill.
