just completed a complete upgrade of a 1985 Model 500. Power Pro, 520 tables, double tilt and new casters. While it took me longet then planned, I am really pleased with the perforamnce of this new machine.

WOW That is an impressive leap. I am certain that you will be very pleased with the 520 table system and the Power Pro Headstock. The new casters will also be great. The double tilt I can not comment on since I have not made use of a double tilt.

I am completing my first project using a wide range of the PP upgrade. I had only been doing lather work, which is great on the PP. Now I have been using the table saw. And it is great, such an improvement over the older SS table saw. Works like a real saw!

I have one simple question. Am cutting 45 degree bevels. Start by moving carriage and table to the far right, then remove the table saw insert to get to 45 degrees. Is this the correct way?

No need to remove the insert; you WILL need to advance the quill.

No need to move to the far right unless the workpiece is long enough to interfere with the base parts.

Lets put it this way, excellent choice of upgrades, been there and done that. I think you will be happy.

Now when cutting when the table is tilted, if the stock is short enough that it doesn't hit the tubes or other parts then there is no need to move to the side.

You will want to have some sort of table insert in place, this depends on which one you have installed and what you are trying to do. The blade is centered in the insert by way of advancing the quill and then locking in place. It might feel funny when you first do it but it really needs to be done that way. You should have had this same issue before you upgraded.

Now if you have the lift assist installed you might not be able to cut the stock depending on table height. I've found it is easier to remove the lift assist then have to deal with it for certain operations, this is one of them. The issue is that you can not slide the table (carriage) over as far with it in place.

Now go make some safe sawdust.
