A Bit More Articulation

I have the universal tool rest and it is great, but sometimes I just need the standard tool rest with a bit more articulation to do a little turning job. I used the tool rest bar from the universal and draw filed a shaft to fit the standard tool rest. The power pro and a new file made quick work of the draw filing.

How's it holding up? What kind of use is it getting?

Paul,
I am not quite sure what you are asking about. I slipped a power pro onto my 520 last year and found that I lost a bit of carriage travel with the lift assist that I added at the same time. I use a dual bearing mandrel saver from Vicmarc for pen turning and I was not able to get my tool rest where I needed it. The extra little arm gets me where I needed to be.

I haven't gotten to the point where I have needed this add on but I think it is a great idea and pretty simple to make. I'm going to tuck it in my lathe folder for future reference.

Thanks for sharing!
