Lower Saw Guard

Shopsmith is calling this a "Model 500 Disc Sander Dust Chute" but I would have called it a lower saw guard.

Is this a new item for the 500s?

It does appear to be nothing less the current lower saw guard minus the clamping mechanism for the upper guard.

It also seems to be missing the part that moves up and down as you raise and lower the table.

I wonder what this is.

The reason I suspect it is missing both the clamp for the upper saw guard and the part that moves up and down with the table is that it is intended to be used with the sanding discs off to the side of the table rather than under the table through the insert. I believe this could not be used under the table of a 500 at all for the same reasons the current lower saw guard doesn't work with the 500 table.

No, it is not a new item. See this thread 510 lower guard with a 500 table?
