Wasn't able to find the two screws I needed for my jigsaw at the local hardware store - Machine Screws 10-24x1/4 and 6-40x5/16. ShopSmith sells them, but its about $10 for three screws once you add in shipping. Any suggestions where to get these at a reasonable price?

Note - the hardware store has 10-24s, but the smallest size was 1/2". 6-40s weren't available at all. Thanks for any info!

What hardware store did ya try? Can ya get a longer screw and cut it to your needs?

Difficult to 'find', but you need an old timey real hardware store, not a big box store.

I would cut off the too long screw(s). Jam two nuts to control the length. FWIW, the disk sander will quickly remove the excess length of those small screws. Hold tightly with pliers!!!! It will get hot.;)

Excellent, thanks. I'll cut off the #10-24s, that should work. I have done a bunch of research on the #6-40s, looks like they are an uncommon size - most places, such as Ace Hardware, only carry #6-32s. They are available at online gun stores, but you have to buy in bulk. I might just have to make it an add-on with a Shopsmith order. Thanks again.

SAE threads come in two 'versions'.

'National course' and 'National fine'. Most places carry the course, and a few also carry the 'fine'.

FWIW, the same thing exists within metric screws.
