New shop is coming along...

Been working on this, mostly single handedly, since the spring. Finally getting close. Should have the roof finished and run the electrical out there in a few weeks. Hopefully, the shopsmith and a few other things will have a new home by December. I wanted to have it done before now, but life is what happens when you're making other plans. I'm certainly no builder (and now have an even greater respect for those who are), but it'll work....

Awesome!
You will enjoy that space! How will you heat it?

Considering a few options. HD has a 23,000 btu kerosene heater for around $130. Also thinking about a couple of oil filled radiators. Not to sure on a wood stove, but maybe...

too bad you aren't closer. I have a home oil furnace with tank I would give you. We are in the process of putting gas radiant heat in.

If you do opt for kerosene, go with a torpedo heater, and have it pull it's combustion air from outside. They make a thermostat for those, a simple inline plug affair, that work fairly well. The wick type gravity heaters don't do much, and you won't be happy with it.
Personally, i think wood in a sawdust making shop is a bad idea.

Here in Florida, I use a oil filled heater on the colder days and have to turn it down some of the times. I have a second oil filled heater that I have not had to use yet. I have a shop cat (13 years old) that lives in the shop (24 X 24) so I have to keep it some what warm in the winter and cool (21K BTU AC) in the summer. I was amazed at how well an oil filled heater can heat a space.

Thanks for the heating advice. I'll be looking into it more as the time to start making sawdust approaches. I've got natural gas to the house, but it's almost a 200' run out to the shop, although I WILL be trenching for power and water. Hmmmmm
Been out there working with halogen lights and a headlamp each night the weather's good, trying to get the outside buttoned up. Dang time change....

About done. Outside pic from last weekend, inside pic from this weekend. Move in day! Still have a ways to go, but my SS can help me with it now! :-)
UPDATED EXTERIOR PIC
Deck is mostly finished. 'Tis the season for money being tight, so I have a couple of temporary power cords running things til I finish getting it permanently wired. In the mean time, I've got some benches to build, trim to put on, etc etc etc....

What size is the shop, looks about 18' x 30'ish?
