Jessem stock guides install

Hey gang,

I pulled the trigger on the Jessem Stock Guides and have installed them on my 520. Took a little work but I am very pleased with the outcome. I have the Board Buddy set up that I don't need anymore so it is for sale (make offer) without the two SS T-nuts needed to affix it to the top of the 520 fence.

Thanks for posting this; I was just thinking about these yesterday (someone posted a pic of the the fence mounted feather boards and it got me thinking about these).

Have you used them yet? How do they compare to the board buddies?

Much more compact left to right than the Board Buddies. Much easier to adjust. You can move the wheels up and over out of the way for unassisted cuts without having to take the whole assembly off. It is rare that I need the top of my fence unencumbered so I just leave the track installed on the fence (can remove it by loosening 6 screws) and take the wheel assemblies off when I don't need them. Very solid construction and well machined.

Thanks. Curious how the wheel assemblies mount to the Jessem track. Do you think the Jessem track is a necessity or could the wheel assemblies be mounted to the t-track built into the top of the 520 fence via Shopsmith t-nuts?

The wheel assembly design wouldn't allow it to be mounted directly to the fence. The rail attached to the bottom of a wheel assembly is about the size of a Festool rail connector rod.

Jack,

Thought I'd check back in with you and see if you have had a chance to use these since your install and if you are still pleased with them.

Also, I have been studying your photos and it appears you machined a piece of aluminum to fit in the 520 t-track and give a level surface to the top of the 520 fence. Was this what you attached the Jessem t-track to?

Last question (for now): How long is the Jessem track itself? It looks a lot loner than the 520 fence.

Thanks,

Al

I received these Jessem stock guides for Christmas, along with the router table guides. I am extremely happy with both.

To mount the table saw stock guides, I simply removed the miter bar on each guide and replaced it with two Woodpeckers Miter Slot Nuts (MSN-4PC) modified to fit the Shopsmith 520 fence.

I mounted the guides to the top outboard slot of the 520 fence so the wheels could be moved up and behind the face of the fence if necessary.

I can post a pic if you like.

Yes, I am very pleased with the stock guides. I used the aluminum strip that i picked up at Home Depot and machined into long t-nuts that run the full length of my fence. I then attached the rail to the custom t slot material I made. You may need shorter screws. The fit is very good and rock solid when tightened down for use, Also, my son (Santa) got me the jessem stock guides for my router table. They work outstandingly as well.

Best safety equipment I have received in years.

Jack

PSI need to sell my Board Buddies on an aluminum track drilled to fit the fence. Needs 4 t-nuts from SS as i am keeping mine. $65 shipped to the lower 48.

Here ya go Al. Sorry it took so long.

As I said, I modified these Woodpeckers Miter Slot Nuts (MSN-4PC)
http://www.shopwoodpeckers.com/woodpeck ... s-msn-4pc/

The diameter of the cylindrical portion was a bit too big. So, I had to file them down. First I removed the nut from the bolt and returned it upside down.

Then chuck the bolt in your DP like so. Go ahead and put it all the way in. If you don't, the nut is going to spin all the way up to the chuck as soon as you put the file to it anyway.

Then put the file to it. But don't get carried away.

Now they fit.

And they work great.

Since they are mounted in the outboard slot on the fence, they move up and out of the way of tall stock.

I also have the guides for my router table and am VERY happy with them.
