Has anyone tried cutting glass bottles (such as wine bottles) on their shopsmith? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYU3YXyAceI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viV9ivbWNA0 are examples, so obviously it can be done on any lathe. Its really more a matter of if anyone here has experience and what method produced the best results.
Thanks!

I should think the best results would be to use a wet saw. I've rented them and they work quite well. I wouldn't want to be getting glass dust on my SS or shop floor.

Re: Glass Bottle Cutting?
Hello, I saw your post and just wanted to respond with my bottle cutting experiences. The best bottle cutter I have ever used is actually very simple. I have attached a picture, I've worked with stained glass as long as I've been woodworking and have cut many bottles with this tool. It's not always foolproof due to the irregularities in the glass. Now, on the Shopsmith, I suppose if someone made a diamond blade for the band saw and if you could rig some type water drip where the blade contacts the glass, with a low speed, this may work. I've also cut glass and tile with a diamond blade on my grinder and I suppose a diamond blade in the table saw might work but this can be very dangerous.

A few thoughts... That test tube is much thinner glass. It's also bvery likely a lot truer than most bottles. And damn that torch is tiny! Never sec one that small.
It's always hard to judge speeds in videos but it looks like they are using a metal lathe on very slow. I wouldn't want a fast spinning piece of glass to shatter!
On the other hand you get a nice straight cut, if it works.
I've cut the necks of bottles to make slides for guitar playing and of the things I tried I liked a tiny diamond wheel on my dremel the best,, but it was far from ideal. In afraid the string trick never worked for me. No idea why because I sure tried.
Just watched videos on the g2 glad cutter mentioned above. That looks like the best solution. It is a normal wheeled glass cutter (but with 6 wheels to rotate through as they dull) on a frame that makes sure the scored line lines up right. I wish I'd known about it.

Picked one of these very items up. I think I need my water much hotter than I had it, and wine bottles seems to be quite sturdy. The score isn't running yet. Will try water much closer to boiling next...hopefully that takes care of things.
