Saturday Night at the Movies

Greetings fellow sawdust makers.
The old Shopsmith film is back up, at least for now. Just go to youtube and search for "Modern Multipurpose Power Tool". Have Fun!

Those are pretty cool Tom. When were these made and by whom? I haven't watched any yet, I am downloading them and will combine them into one then watch ....

Those old films are a wealth of information. Every time I watch see something new. I still get a kick out of the introduction. My how times have changed!

On further review I see the saw guard was available as an accessory. As far as dust collection goes I guess that is what arm hair is for.

Very cool, and I learned a thing or two just from the intro film.
And then I started wondering. When those films were made, there were three or four broadcast TV networks, with no "infomercials" that I can recall. The films predate cable TV, at least where I grew up. The home VCR had not yet been invented. So I deduce that the films always had to be presented using a movie projector. Where and when?

Not sure Dennis. Watching the films reminds me of high school. The A/V kid would roll the projector into the room, spool the film, dim the lights and we'd watch something similar.
I always wonder why Magna tried to disguise the true purpose of the film series...to sell Shopsmiths by educating people on all the things you can do with one. They do this by calling it a Modern Multipurpose Power Tool. Other than the credits and on the machine itself the word Shopsmith is never uttered or displayed. But it doesn't really matter. All 7 videos in the series are full of good information, if taken in the context of the era. I can pick a random location in any of the videos and learn something new.
Until algale pointed it out I never knew what a great shoe shine you could get from a Mark V.
