Set Screws Used by Shopsmith

There have been numerous postings regarding the hardware and hardware part numbers used by Shopsmith. The data provided in the parts lists and exploded views leaves much to be desired. Thanks to the diligent work of one of the forum members (not myself), many of the resulting questions have been answered.

With Mikes' permission, I am posting a copy of a document that he shared with me. I hope that it is as helpful for each of you as it has been for me.

I will let Mike step forward, if he so desires, to further identify himself as the contributor of this fine work. I certainly hope that he will do that as he deserves the credit for this fantastically helpful collection of information.

Mike went a giant step further than I would have to make this data all come to fruition. He actually purchased the parts that you see pictured here from Shopsmith and used the shipping documents to help compile and validate the data.

Thank you, Mike. I do not believe you realize just how much you have done for this Shopsmith community.

That is quite the listing!

I'll print a copy for the books with my color printer. Already saved a copy to my shopsmith folder.

My thanks to the both of you!

Ed

Suggested title: "Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Set Screws But Were Afraid To Ask."

This is a terrific resource. Thanks to the author and to Dusty for sharing.

Dusty & Mike

This thread and Mike's thorough work to clarify set screw uncertainties exemplify how important the Shopsmith Forums are to us. Goodwill makes this a community out of dispersed owners. Thanks.

What I contributed to this document you have all seen before. I have posted a Shopsmith Set Screw spread sheet several times. It has been a living document that evolved as the data was collected.

The PDF provided in this thread was prepared by Mike. He did the work and deserves all of the credit for this document as presented here.

It is my hope that Shopsmith will utilize this compilation of data to update the Shopsmith Mark V Exploded Views and Parts Lists that they provide both online and in printed form.

The set screw in the Tool Rest is either a 102582 (296)or 102585 (297). 102582 is 1/2" long and 102585 is 7/8" long.

Other details available on the initially referenced chart.
