BIG shout out from the UK.

I have a question for all you guys that may be able to solve a problem for me!

I recently acquired a second hand, mint condition, lovely piece of kit called a smithshop Joint-Matic.

I see some of you guys on web forums rave about this piece of kit which is great.

The problem is that it came in bits and now putting it together I have what looks like a major piece left over.....
Can anyone tell me what it is called, what does it do and where does it fit.

Feel free to jump in and shed any light on my situation.
Please see images before.

This link should picture what you have. The picture in the link shows 510/520 version(2 adjustment controls). Yours, with one is likely for the 500.

Thank you very much. You my friend, are spot on. Also you're right it is for the 500. Still not sure how it all mounts on to the Joint Matic. It's likley that I could be missing a piece as it looks like the router needs to be mounted on the vertical... Any thoughts?

I do not have the Joint Matic, so I cannot answer that part of the question. The pictures I am able to see on a search don't seem to show this fence with the Joint Matic. There doesn't appear to be much information available on the Joint Matic. Is it possible that the ShaperDrum Sander fence had been used on the main Shopsmith instead of the Joint Matic?

What you have shown here is not the Joint-Matic.

What you show is a split fence (either side is independently adjustable) to be used for shaping or drum sanding. I also use one occasionally as a router fence. The one you show is a bit different than mine and I believe the differences are because your is for use on the 500. Mine is for the 505/510. The major differences being how they mount to the main table and how the individual fences are adjusted. Mine mounts to two holes in the main table. I do not know how the 500 mounts.

I'll browse for awhile to see if I can find something here on the forum. I know this subject has been discussed here./

I don't know why but what you have pictured is sometimes referred to as the Speed Increaser Fence. Model Number 555474 for use on the 500. Model Number 555475 for use on the 510.

You have a Mark 5 aka Mark V 500 shaper fence.

The 'left' end mounts against the front of the table(clamp not visible in the pix). The 'right' end has the slot so the clamp(underneath, not visible in the pix) will slide under the rear edge of the table.

On this version only one end is 'micro-adjustable'. The other side is a 'rough' adjustment(loosen clamping screw and manually slide in/out.)

Whatever is sticking out the back(up in the pix) of the rough adjustment is not supposed to be there. It appears to be a short length of all-thread and a wing nut. Definitely not OEM.

I will try to find a pix of the three different shaper fences(5/500, Mark VII and 505-520) and add it.

Found it!
Mark 5 in 'front', Mark VII in the middle, and Mark V 505-520 in back.

If yours has screws smaller than 1/4-20 for fence clamping screws I suggest the following:
The casting was designed for a 1/4-20 square nut. The 3/16-24 nut is just too small for the 'nest' in the casting

I will get bck into the workshop, have a look at it and see if I can come up with a way of setting it up.
