Has anyone gotten one, are they great? Or, just passable.
I'm tempted, especially at $164.00 Tax return cash
is RAPIDLY burning a hole in my pocket.
This one from Home.

It doesn't say but does anyone know why this WON'T work on a
Model 10? (I've seen TONS of SS stuff, that they say won't work,
but, guess what? Works on mine!)

If I hadn't just bought the conical disk and sharpener, I would buy one in a min .... Damn!
I got the email this afternoon.
I think it should work well on a 10 ...
But what do I know!

All the reviews I've read indicate that the G3 is a top-notch chuck. I'll probably pull the trigger on the sale deal this time, myself. Based on the cheapest price I could find anywhere online for the chuck and adapter, Shopsmith is throwing in the pin jaws for about $25. I honestly don't know if I need them or not, but they get very good reviews at $50, so what the heck.
Steve, I can't imagine how the chuck would not fit on a 10ER. All of my chucks and arbors mate up perfectly with any of my 10E, 10ER, Power Station, or Mark V spindles.
I do have two Mark V accessories that would require some work to mate up with a 10ER. A speed reducer (because it mounts to the quill and way tubes as well as the spindle), and a Ring Master (which mounts to the way tubes).

Thanks guys. I'll pull the pin!
Dennis, Dick, I agree with you guys.
I've yet to see ANYTHING that just mounts
on the spindle, that doesn't work on the
Model 10. (As well as a few things that
mount on the 500 table, too. The 500
shaper/jointer fence is one.)

Steve,
If you plan to turn pens, A set of pen jaws used to help hold the blank while drilling the hole is available I have them and really like them). A general price is $44, however Rockler (or maybe Woodcrafter) has recently had them on sale for $30.
Be well,
Ben

I have one that I use on my Powermatic and can say for sure that it is a good chuck. I consider my Oneway a great chuck. That being said, if you need a chuck, this one won't let you down. The pen jaws, by the way, are great... Order them!,,

Chris, you sound like just the guy to clarify a burning question. Shopsmith is bundling "pin" jaws with the G3 chuck. One can also purchase "pen" jaws, which would logically be intended for pen turning. Can you shed any light on the difference, if any?

The pin jaws are simply small jaws whereas the pen jaws are designed to hold pen blanks for the purpose of drilling. I love the pen jaws, but to be honest, if I need to hold small objects (ornamental birdhouses for example) I prefer my oneway talon chuck with spigot jaws. For pens, however, the pen jaws are the best thing since sliced bread. Much better than a drill press and clamp... Fyi, you still need to put the pen blanks on a mandrel to turn, the pen jaws are more to hold the blank while drilling...
