help on 1954 Green Mark 5

I live in Central Missouri. I am retired but limited in mechanical ability.
I have a problem with the machine in that the variable speed does not work. I replaced the speed dial few years ago but the gear teeth are chewed off again. At suggestion of Shopsmith, I took off dial and the three screws that hold the inner dial but it came apart. I have also remove the motor cover but still can get the part that controls the headspace pulley out of the housing to see what is wrong.
I am sure I need to order the piece that controls the headstock pulley and maybe some other parts, as Shopsmith said that they often stick if not lubricated ever two months and this is a 1954 machine.
Is there anyone that is somewhat close to Central Missouri that can assist me???
How do I remove the "pork chop" bracket (what ShopSmith called it) so I can see what is wrong? Anyone have any idea??????????????????????????
