thanks guys.I salvaged the legs from one of the barns i was tearing down.I'm not sure what they were originally used for.

Wow. Those legs were quite a find. I have never played with hemlock. Soft or hardwood ?

In addition to the legs, I just realized that the X-shaped base is a key to the overall appeal of the piece. Practical, too -- it keeps the legs from marring the floor. Nice touch!
