I read here somewhere about aligning the drill bit in the drill chuck when in the drill press function. I noticed that the tip of my bit seems to "wobble" and for the life of me I couldn't remember the trick to get it chucked straight.

If the bit is bent you can't do anything about it.

Try this method: 1) Make sure the bit is centered in the chuck. 2) When using the key, only snug the bit using one of the holes in the chuck. Don't TIGHTEN! 3) Snug the bit using the key in the other two holes.

Now if you were to go back to the first hole again I think you'll find the bit is firmly in the chuck and the key won't turn.

This method saves chucks and keys from a lot of wear.

I used to use two holes, but found all three are better!

Chuck is spot on, but first make sure the bit is indeed centered between the three jaws and not poking out the gap between two jaws.

Tighten the chuck until it is smaller than the bit. Then open the chuck slowly while attempting to insert the bit. When the bit slips straight into the chuck, then begin Chuck's method.

Another thing to do is check for any metal chips in the chuck or a snag on the bit. When you insert the bit as advised close the chuck by hand while rotating the bit. If there are chips or snags, you will feel them. Chucks and bits do get damaged (at least I am told that).
