Magna Jointer
Does anyone know where I can find a serial number index to find out what year my Magna Jointer is S/N 67527)? The color matches my Greenie so I think it is from the same era but I'd like to know what year it is especially since I already know the year of my Greenie (1958) and my Magna Bandsaw (1956).

Many of these "date of manufacture" questions can be answered by simply referring to the charts made available on the forum.

Click on the link above and then on the SPT name. Scroll down and you have the date chart.

Re: Magna Jointer
Great news! I just finished putting the jointer back together and it works great! I do have a couple of questions though...first, does anyone have a parts manual for Magna Jointer? I have a spring left over and for the life of me I cannot seem to remember where it goes. The spring is about as big around as a dime and just about as tall and has a pretty heft spring tension. As for the second question, why is the lower shaft on my headstock getting hot, or warmer than I think it should be, when coupled to the jointer? The jointer has new bearings and everything moves freely and the headstock is freshly rebuilt. I checked the alignment of the headstock shaft and the jointer shaft and they were off just a little but but even after leveling them I still noticed some heat (warm to the touch) from the headstock side. Since I am new to all of this I want to know if this is normal or if I need to look into something. I just had a thought while typing this...could the gilmer belt be too tight and thus be the culprit of the "heat" I am noticing? Here are some before and after pics as well...Enjoy.

http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=2692does anyone have a parts manual for Magna Jointer?
Does this help? The only spring I see is for the cutter guard.

Re: Magna Jointer
That is the same one I used to put it back together and after looking at the rest of the manual it got me wondering if there was a change between '53 and '56. Mine does not have the drive pulley they show in their diagram so I though maybe there was something else out there.Mike907 wrote:http://vintagemachinery.org/pubs/detail.aspx?id=2692does anyone have a parts manual for Magna Jointer?

Re: Magna Jointer
That manual is for a 4E model that preceded your greenie model. It was made for use on a model 10E/ER and has a different mount as well as the pulley. Otherwise it is essentially the same.greasemonkey2275 wrote:That is the same one I used to put it back together and after looking at the rest of the manual it got me wondering if there was a change between '53 and '56. How about a pix of the 'mystery' spring. There are two springs on the stud that retains the sliding(infeed) table.
