Gentlemen,

The good news is that my rebuilt control sheave came in the mail today...the bad news is that after connecting everything back together I think I have a bad capacitor. I cleaned the contacts in the relay, as a vehicle mechanic I have scene worse, and when I hook the wires back up (yes, they are on there correctly) the motor just sits there an hums instead of firing up then disconnecting from the capacitor to run at full speed. Besides updating the motor, does anyone know of a replacement capacitor or do I just head down the the local electrical store and see what they come up with? Thanks,

Yes, I have cleaned and oiled everything (I'm in the middle of a restoration on a 1958 Mark V) and I have the motor back out of the headstock sitting on the bench.

Yes, it is the GE motor with he start relay and capacitor mounted on the back. I used my ohmmeter on it and came up with little to no resistance.

The Place inline is optional and requires first placing the cursor where you intend for it to go.

Finally there is a maximum size. I believe 1200 x 900 will work.

So I took the motor down the the local electrical motor repair shop and the capacitor was bad however once it was replaced the motor still didn't run. The guy rechecked the windings and everything seemed to be fine but he recommended replacing the relay/switch on the back. I brought everything back home and did a minor tweak here and there and now the motor fires off every time! So a $9 capacitor and a little tweak and I am back in business.

Please explain 'tweak'. Did they give you the original capacitor back?

Make sure the relay is disconnecting the start circuit after it 'fires' up.

There should be an ac voltage across relay terminals 1 and 2 when motor is running. Do not expect it to be 115v, but much greater than zero.
