Why?.. what drives ya?

My answer is:
To report to work, without a commute, without dealing with traffic, stop signs, traffic lights, parking and idiots. To set my own schedule without "the Garfields" breathing down your neck. To wear, whatever I want, including: Hat, shorts, sandals and a thong <-- j/k. To not have to deal with all of the drama mamma's and to have my music blasting to my favorite genre of tunes. And if that's not enough, have mans best friend, standing or sitting near ya. This is so much better, than corporate Amerika!
Sure, it is a lot of risk. And a lot of hard work. And anyone who has done this, must take baby steps in the beginning. Any step forward, is better than, a step backwards!

I did it for close to 30 years. I walked 100' to my office/businesses daily. Loved every min of it ....
All I can say is go for it!
BTW, sure I had mans best friend (pairs of Dalmatians), but I also had a soul mate. She is still with me, the Dals are not except in my memories, the soul mate is far more important ....

Been living that dream for 26 years. Had to retire to realize it, though.

I am very thankful that I no longer have to live and work the corporate arena BUT I am equally thankful that I have had that experience.
I am even more thankful for the regular retirement check that comes to me monthly. Then there is the medical coverage. Without the corporate experience, that might not be there.

I have been on both sides of the fence. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
I will say corporate life today is far different from corporate life in say the sixties. In fact many in corporate life today live the best of both worlds. They work from home, they they have contracts that pay on their production level, and most will job shop once or twice a year going to the place with the most opportunity.
Also times have changed on pensions and medical insurance, in most corporations it falls on the employees shoulders to provide for their own retirement.
The advantage of corporate life you have people with different skill levels to support you where you lack. Advantage of non corporate life you usually get a bigger piece of the pie when you succeed.
Disadvantages of corporate life you must support the parasites that feed off your work. Disadvantages of non corporate life it is all on you success or failure it is your baby.
What I found is no matter if you are working for a corporation or not find the job you like and don't be afraid to leave one job to find another. If you are worth your salt and leave the right way you can usually go back to your old job.
