I just finished running some boards through my jointer on the SS and noticed that the headstock was hot to the touch. I had it running for about 20-30 minutes; is this normal?

If the heat buildup is on the top left end of the headstock over the auxiliary shafts the heat is most likely normal. The lower aux shaft will also get hot.

This is exactly where the heat is coming from and being new to the SS family I was not sure if this was normal or not. I had noticed it before on the auxiliary shaft but this was the first time that I noticed the whole headstock was hot. I just wanted to make sure that this was normal. I also noticed that when I have the speed control up so I can use the jointer that it has a tendency to "walk". Is that normal as well?

Yes they tend to run hot. Not very good air circulation internal to the headstock(A LOT of saw dust gets in there as it is).

The speed control can walk. I assume you meant towards fast. That can be caused by a worn motor belt or worn sheaves especially the keyed control sheave having backlash.

Yes, it was toward fast but the nice thing was the detent spring kept it from going faster. I lowered the speed and it seemed to hold just fine but there was definitely some vibration at high speed, so much so that I figured that was what was causing the speed control to walk. It probably wouldn't hurt for me to order a new belt especially since I am using the original belt that came with it.
