Soooooooooo I was looking at how much we are paying for gas and the couple of times I noticed that the last digit that is always $x.xx9 is now a zero. For as long as I can remember it has always been a 9, so what gives with this? Some tax change or some new law or is it only at this one station?????????? Since I have not traveled much these last years I'm sure that things change from state to state so maybe this is how it is other places?

May 29 we paid $2.69
June 20 we paid $2.85

So are the times changing or what?

It is still 9 here. Having said that, the large signs that you can read as you drive buy are just 3 digits (i.e. 2.85) but if you look at the price at the pump by the grade selection button and the price printed on the receipt it is 4 digits(i.e 2.859).

I would welcome the day that gasoline is priced only down to the penny. But, around here, we're still stuck with that tenth of a cent.

If the price on the big sign is $2.85 then the price on the pump should be either $2.85 or $2.849. If the price on the pump is $2.859 then the consumer is being falsely overcharged by one cent per gallon and is an intentional deception by the seller. Possible bait and switch.

Still .9 around here. Early last week, we paid 2.179 in Tucson. Son says he got it for 2.169 Friday last.
For those in Tucson, it was an Arco on Speedway.

Here the amount on the sign includes the last digit, think it might be the law?? Anyway it is posted on the sign, on the pump and on the receipt that way. Having that last digit a zero just looks strange.

The little "bait and switch" is they post a price when you get a car wash (lower amt / gallon) but have the "with car wash" in smaller letters that you can easily miss.

Well, that certainly works. 2.85 X 13.144 = 37.46.

I will have to check here with the .009 cents. I am sure you are correct but why is it different all of a sudden or in different places (states)? There has been 9/10th on gas prices as long as I can remember. I am 68. I just need to do the math here when I buy gas the next time.

Since the .009 has always been there(a not so subtle mind game especially when everyone is playing it), I simply consider 2.899 to mean 2.90.
