I bought a "refurbished" bandsaw from a fellow who claims to've handled more than 50 of them.

There's a pair of parts that just don't seem right.

It works ok, but the table doesn't move smoothly. My memory of my old one was that it should. Further, it wouldn't loosen with just the handle, I also had to loosen the nut. I couldn't get the nut tight enough to be not be sloppy and loose enough to allow movement.

So I went poking about with it and compared what I have with the current exploded parts list.

I saw I was missing the Trunnion Support (515013), and the two bolts he had were not the Screw (517085) and Table Clamp Bolt (516438).

I ordered the parts and last evening tried putting them in.

First, I found that I missed the fact that there wasn't a Trunnion Support on the other side, the Tilt Indicator Scale is screwed straight to the body.

Second, when I put the Screw through the Trunnion, Trunnion Support, Washer (502676)(parts list has a typo as 402676) and body, it doesn't come out the other side :-(

There's a Bushing (517021) indicated on the drawing, and it's drawn flush up against the body.

But what I have is some kind of sleeve or spacer. Actually, two, one for each end of the Trunnion Support. And they stick out both sides of the body. Even if the Screw was long enough, by the time the Trunnion Supports were in place, the Trunnions would be too far apart to fit the table.

This shows the spacers on either side of the Tilt Scale. They stick out about the same distance on the other side.
Do they belong here? Did he just stick something in there to make his other parts fit? Is this the way SS used to do it?

And if they don't belong, how to get them out, just pound them out?

And if they're out, I'll need to add the Bushings to the parts I need to order.

Those steel bushings are not OEM. You say they were driven in?

Do you have a copy of the bandsaw manual?

No, the bushings are not right. Furthermore, you are missing some parts. Hopefully these few images will give you some idea of what you are looking for.

These images show some broken parts but they are the same parts that you need. The last photo is the best I have of a fully assembled unit.

Holler if these need explanation.

I stand corrected, the trunion provides the curved slot, the plastic piece provides the bushing function and screw/nut nest.

The final review:

This is the plastic part that serves as the bushings. You need two; one for each side.

Note that one bolt has a hex head and the other is countersunk.

Opps. Missed one image. A very important part. The Table Tilt Lock Handle.

No, I didn't have the black plastic parts (Trunnion Support). I knew I was missing one, ordered one from SS. Didn't know about the other until I actually had it apart, ordering it.

Ok, not OEM, so they need to go. I don't know if they were driven in, I'd think they'd have to've been. They don't slip either way and don't rotate.

I've a copy of the parts list, exploded diagram and a SS document about setting up and adjusting the BS that was included.

The exploded diagram is at http://www.shopsmith.com/service/bandsa ... iagram.htm. There's a pair of parts, numbered 40, the parts list calls them bushings (40, 517021, Bushing). Only calls for two of them, so they'd be on the left side (the teeth point to the left).

But in these pictures it sure looks like the screw goes through the Trunnion Support, Trunnion, (maybe a washer), body, (maybe a washer), Trunnion and Trunnion Support.

... or maybe the bushing goes inside the holes, flush with the body... The screw fits through these spacers, if they were removed, the hole in the body would be too large, the screw would wobble about. The bushing must fit inside the hole, flush, and the screw goes through it.

So my shopping list is:
38 1 515013 Trunnion Support
40 2 517021 Bushing

And I'd already gotten:
38 1 515013 Trunnion Support
39 3 502676 Washer 19/32"
46 1 516438 Table Clamp Bolt 3/8-24x3
47 1 517085 Screw

The 'bushings'(40) set into the body bores(part way IIRC) and provide a surface for the 37/38/39 set of parts to bear against on the interior side. EDIT - Ignore that - I did not recall correctly(see how easy it is to get into trouble by not going to the shop and 'verifying' ),

Resist a gorilla twist on either 47 or 44. If not yours will look like Dusty's(and mine a while back ).

And 44 47 (screw and stop nut) should be firm. Not too tight, but firm,

That sequence is what I've been thinking, I'm glad to have some confirmation. And confirmation that the spacers aren't OEM.

I think the vintage of the bandsaw needs to be considered. My saw has none of the plastic parts and looks a lot like the pictures shown at the start of the post. The two pins that are shown might not be original as the ones I have have sport two v-notches for the special fasteners #30 and #39 to hold into.

So for reference this is a quick picture of what the parts list looks like for my vintage.
The manual is dated 12/82.
