What are the probable consequences of attempting to use a table saw with the blade installed backwards?
Will it even cut or will it 'kick back'?

If you trying to cut wood, Lots of smoke!
Seriously I often turn my saw blade backwards to cut plastic. I usually use a high tooth count ply blade. It sort of burns/melts it way through but leaves a real smooth cut edge.

It will cut wood too. Not very efficiently but it will cut. It is NOT safe, don't make it a habit.
