Did you get that information from someone at Shopsmith?

yes this is what they said
Good Afternoon,
Unfortunately, the key is not available by itself. You can order a new switch, item number 556090, for $ 39.24 plus S&H.

I am afraid that this may be the result of speaking to the wrong person. I would suggest that you call and request to place the switch, part number 513411, on order. The catalog lists it as a replacement part. If you have not already done so, look it up in the online catalog. What you see above, in this thread, is an image of that catalog.
Keep shipping charges in mind. If you order nothing other than this switch, shipping charges will exceed the cost of the switch.
You can see that the key is not at all exotic. You could probably make one with very little effort. The shaft is 1/4" if you are going to try that.
You could also open up the power control box and turn the switch on manually and close the box back up. You would lose switch control but you would have a unit that you can operate. Does your control box have a speed control or is it just and on/off control.

Well, maybe you don't need this then. I was playing in sketchup and used this as the training object.
Opps. Missed a needed dimension. The key is setback 1/8" off the end of the shaft and is 3/16" long.

You can use your 3/32 allen-wrench. Push it in the hole and push down the switch button.

I am a bit confused. Steve mentioned a "power station" and a missing key. I have a Power Station and a "power stand". The Power Stand does have the key as pictured in Dusty's post but the Power Station has the same switch as the Type C headstock. The headstock style switch is the snap in type and does have a removable safety key but a different design. Are we mixing up the power stand and the power station?

If it is a "Power Station" and not a Power Stand, the only solution may be to purchase a new switch. The part number for the Safety Key (517143) no longer shows in the online catalog. This is probably because the switch it self has changed at least once.
A replacement that works but is single pole.

This one is also single pole but this will also work. You switch only the hot wire.
