thickness planner

hi i just got a shop smith set i came with a thickness planner the motor that hangs off the side is gone can i just feed wood thru by hand it a 500 motor seems like alot thanks

There is a thread about converting to a hand crank. Mine is manual and I like it. It allows you to control the feed rate which I like. I will see if I can find the thread .....

I think we need a pix to better answer.

That motor 'on the side' would be a feed motor, not the cutter motor.

Actually the 500 1 1/8hp motor is under powered for the 12" planer.

You may have the model that was hand fed by a crank where the feed motor mounts.

One side will have the drive shaft for the cutter, and the opposite side will have a cover that holds either the motor or the hand crank. A pix of that cover would be helpful.

You can upload a pic from your iPhone, but you may need to crop the photo to make it small enough to upload.
