I never knew about this Magna tool before today.
Magna American tillers were also sold as Tillsmith. The Tillsmith Ranger Model No. YT-3061 had a 3 HP Briggs & Stratton vertical shaft engine

I am amazed they had an electric model, way before the"green" movement. ....

So what is 'green' about electric power?

Folks think so only because they are far removed from the non-green parts.

i.e. Out of sight, out of mind.

What is 'green about clear cutting a swath through the trees for the transmission wires?

What is green about raising the water temperature around the cooling coils if submerged?

What is green about killing trees to support wires.

Do not misunderstand, I am not opposed to electrical power, but do not kid ourselves that it is all green.

Guys, as I am in the construction business and have to deal with "green" procedures and practices in building "green" structures and projects, allow me to offer an explanation, that, unfortunately, I have to work with, of what "green" means in the design and construction worlds:

In creating "greener" structures, the objective is to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by efficiently using energy, water and other resources, protecting occupant health, improving employee productivity and reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation.

It actually does include the use of renewable resources, such as trees but, to keep from abusing the supply of those resources.

(By the way, I am not the author of the information in the 2nd paragraph. It is my paraphrase taken from several sources.)

Well, how bout this for "green" .... I am a hotrodder, I own classic Corvettes (9 MPG) Classic pickups (12 to 15 MPG), Glastron runabout boat (sucks gas like a Mack truck) AND I drive a plug in hybrid (Fusion Energi) ....

Front tine rototiller AKA Back killer.

I've used them and they are nasty. Get a rear tine tiller.

Try a Merry Tiller, front tine and my back is fine!
Secret is the how they transmit the engine power to the tine and the balance of the machine.

Merry Tiller uses a thin chain transfer and the stake in the back controls the forward movement.
Very simple process push down the handle and it digs deeper, lift up on the handle and it moves forward. I can run one with one hand while holding a refreshment in the other.

Guarantee if you try to fight it it will win. I see people using gear drive tillers and trying to hold them back. They get exhausted on the first pass.

You are on the cusp of founding ... (drum roll, please) ... The Gas-Hog Conservancy.

I never had much patience for the "green" groups that want you to donate your hard-earned money so that they could lobby the government to spend your tax dollars on misguided environmental initiatives. But I have made a few donations to The Nature Conservancy. They use donations to simply buy up pristine tracts of wilderness, at market value, before developers get their hands on it.

Which brings us back to The Gas-Hog Conservancy. Folks, just send your spare change to Dick. He will use it to buy up H1 Hummers, P51 pylon racers, Cigarette boats, and 12-cylinder, 8-liter, supercharged Paragon Panthers. And since he can't possibly play with more than one of them at a time, OPEC will slowly but surely be swept into the dustbin of history.
