The place we have in the UP of MI (soon to no longer be ours). Had a hanging lamp over the dinning room table that lost is glass shade before I ever knew it. It is an old pull down lamp with three bulbs and a cloth cord. Perhaps from the 1920 or maybe even earlier, so modern stuff just did not fit.

One day shopping at a thrift store I came across this clear glass platter that looked to be about the right size so I spent the $1 on it and sure enough it was just about what I was looking for.

I already owned a glass drill bit so I drilled it and took it up there and the fit was pretty good. Since I have no idea what the original looked like this might be close or totally off the wall but it works for me.

I forgot to take pictures until my last trip and then it was already dark so I shot with the light on and planned to take some more shots the next morning before I left. Forgot to do that but here is what I do have.
It was a fun project and well worth the expense and effort. I hope it gives someone another idea of what can be done if you think just a little out of the box.

Add a paper doily. Obscures the sockets etc..

Pull down lights with cloth cord were very popular in the 50's. We had one in our dinning room that my Mother loved. But it went out of style and she replaced it in the 60's

That's the second time dining room has been spelled 'dinning'. Is that a regional spelling? Just curious.

Spelling and everything proper is optional here

I'm the worst speller so it has more to do with the spell checker not correcting me the anything. I'm not sure I ever passed a spelling test in my life.

I just checked my spell checker goes with either spelling.
That is because both are valid words. Dining as in eating food.
Dinning as in loud confusing noise.

I'm a lousy speller so my mistake was ignorance on my part.

I rely heavily on the spell checker and I NEVER even think about calling out someone for their spelling or grammar errors.

Looks like a good fit and super photography.
