Headstock parts backwards compatible?

Hello everyone! I have an old greenie gilmer drive that needs some work, but see a deal to buy a newer gray Mark 5 headstock. I know that it won't fit the rails, however could the drive components be transplanted into the greenie case? Thanks!

As JPG stated the headstock will fit the rails just fine. The Greenie headstock is rebuildable, if you replace the components with the newer style bits and pieces.

Review http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewt ... 90#p185690 and the two sticky posts that are always at the top of Maintenance and Repair and you will find the proper way to maintain the new and even repair the greenie headstock. That can become the foundation for a shortie that is very useful to have around for other operations.

Post pictures along the way.
