SS planer replacement knives

Post by Alex »

I was wondering if anyone has found a source of replacement planer knives other than from SS. Also, curious as to which honing device works well with the blades still mounted.

I don't hone with the blades mounted so I cannot help there. In fact, I can't help at all. I don't believe there is a source other than maybe eBay for Shopsmith planer or jointer blades other than Shopsmith.

You will find other items in that same category.

This is one place I feel really strongly about buying from the "mother ship". SS planer blades are a unique shape. Get them from shopsmith or used on ebay. Safety trumps economy here as the wedge shape is crucial.

There is one replacement option other than the "mothership", but it will set you back the price of about 5 sets of blades. I'm curious if anyone has gone the route of replacing the cutter head with a spiral replacement head?

If there is a spiral head available to use in the Shopsmith Planer, I have not heard of one. If there is, please post details here.

Maybe here. They say they have cutters for 620 different units.

Thank you, Beeg. I looked there and saw the one for ShopFox but did not see the one on the next line for Shopsmith.
