Just wanted to show a flock of ducks made by some of our woodworking club members made for this year's Toys for Tots drive

Really nice. I assume they are wind powered. How are they mounted on a post?

I assumed they were a pull along toy, since the "shoes" are paper and would flop over as it "walked"

Beave has it correct. A dowel topped with a maple ball has yet to be added. They are push along toys.
The shoes are made from aircraft inner tube tires. One of our members has his own airplane and has access to the tubes which have to be replaced on a regular basis.

Do they also make a squawking sound as they go along? Many years back a friend's neighbor made them and had a reed inside that when the axle of the wheels (legs) rotated, there was a cam inside the lower body which had a piece of material attached to the lobe which rubbed on a reed (similar to a turkey caller) causing it to screech and squawk.

The body was basically hollowed with a piece plastic piece attached to the outside of body so it acted like an sound chamber.

As I think about it, I sort of remember a red tongue that darted in and out as it rolled.

I remember the kids loved them while the parents hated them!!

Very nice and a great gift!!

Bill, your club has taken on quite a chore! Considering the painting and especially the work on the flapping feet. Not my cup of tea, but if I were in your club I'd participate to the best of my ability.

Congratulations to your club for all the work they do for a wonderful, worthy, needed cause. Kids need all the joy we can give them, and your bunch definitely pitches in big time.
