I was going to make a comment, not in ND! But I guess St Paul is about as close as I could expect it to be.

I looked at the website some. For those that have went, is it more of a tool show, or actual word working? I have the tools that I am going to have (at least for awhile LOL). Any instruction would have to be at a very "green" level of comprehension for me. I'd have to take off a couple days of work to attend. So, I'll have to decide if it is for me or not.

Hey ddub, it's a product and tool show with dozens of woodworking seminars for all skill levels. It's just fantastic. Last year I attended in Milwaukee because they dropped St Paul for a couple of years. They have free seminars as well as paid seminars. My experience with the shows is over years they have declined then in 2008-2009 went down hill. The last show I attended here in Tampa was 1/4 the size of the show they once had.
Most of the big names manufactures did not attend.
The seminars that they had are done by "local experts" which are members of local wood working club. Being a club member exposed me to more info from them than they could give In a 1 hrs seminar. I haven't attended a show for about 3 years. Perhaps I will go this year to see if it is getting better or worst.

I once attended the shows to put my name on the machines that I wanted once the show was over. Back in the day manufactures would send one of everything they made to the show which were then sold off at the end of show. Some machines went for less than half price. However those days are gone, they haven't done that for years. Also many manufactures would be at the show and through local dealers offered super deals. You met the local dealer and he offered you products for far less than you could ever buy it for anywhere else.

Also the shows were the play ground for innovators. In the late 90's there were row after row of guys selling their newest idea to make wood working better/easier. Got all kinds of gadgets some good some never quite worked as shown. Oh well.

The reality is that there just aren't enough of us woodworkers in this sparsely populated area to justify putting on a show up here. They do much better in the more heavily populated areas of the country.

Apparently, there aren't enough woodworkers in the western half of the US.

I realize this. I like poking fun at our wonderful state's lack of population. But that is what keeps me here....... My neighbor is a corn field and I like it that way!
