Hi,
I am a long time lurker and occasional poster. I've restored two 1953 model Mark V's but need help adjusting the speed controls. I'm located in the NE corner of Missouri. Is there anyone in the area (I'll drive to St. Louis, if needed) that has experience adjusting these? I'm willing to pay for a few hours of help. Thanks.

Try the remote method first.

What exactly do you need help with? Pix may help.

Both speed controls will increase speed until you get to the "Saw" setting and then start slowing down incremently afterwards.

Is it slowing down, or is the motor belt slipping?

What size are the motor belts. SS issue?

Look at the belt positioning on the motor pulley at 'saw' and 'fast' and 'report back'.

Pix would be better.

Sorry for the long delay. I just got around to tearing down the SS. The belt was half "eaten" and required a dismantle to clean and relubricate everything. It looks like the control sheave was sticking, possibly a secondary problem caused by rubber gumming up the sliding. I think the main problem was probably that the retaining ring (circlip) for the speed control assembly had slipped out of it's groove and allowed too much movement from the worm control shaft. Would this cause the slow down after "saw" speed mentioned above and subsequent problems? Is there a good fix for the circlip "slippage"? I do have another speed control assembly that I'm going to substitute.

I noticed that I have one tooth missing on the speed control dial. Do I need to replace it, or is it inconsequential? If it need replacing, does anyone have an extra for sale?

Thanks.

So the control was on slow when I dismantled the SS. What steps do I use to reinstall the belt?
