Hello, I am new a new owner to a 1959 'Greenie' and am in the process of fixing it up. I am lucky as the machine seems to have hardle ever been used. One issue I am running into is that when I increase the speed, the control sheave rubs against the speed control quadrant. This obiously is not correct and causes a horrible noise. Any ideas what component(s) I may need to further inspect and replace? There seems to be a bit of play in the worm control shaft of the speed control. Could this be allowing the quadrant to move, allowing this contact to the control sheave?

If all else is working properly there is a stop screw located under the speed control dial that you may take it up to top speed just before the noise starts shut it off and remove the dial and adjust the stop screw. Hope this helps. Others may be able to explain it better, Bob
