What Really Irritates Me

are articles such as this with no followup.

http://www.woodworkingonline.com/2007/0 ... al-breath/

Is Shopsmith Breathing Its Final Breath?

Apparently not. It is now eight years later and they still seem to be breathing - on their own. But what really irritates me are publications that present questions like this but then do not followup.

I would bet that many wood workers (potential Shopsmith owners) were turned away from Shopsmith by this article. It matters not what the answer may be. The question causes all the damage.

I agree and I'm also irritated they used a picture of a Mark 2!

I did not even notice that. It just goes to show how "outdated" their prejudices are. Shamefully, these articles are published by one of the leading woodworking magazines in the industry.

Many of the "leading wood working magazines" have breathed or are breathing their final breaths, as far as I can tell.

It looks like the article was posted in 2007. Eight years later Shopsmith is still here. Does Woodworking Online have any content post-2010?

As another hobby I ride a 1972 Moto Guzzi motorcycle. I once saw a T-shirt that said, "Moto Guzzi: Going out of business since 1921." Maybe we should have similar T-shirt made for Shopsmith. BTW, the Guzzi brand still around, too.

[edit] I see Dusty also noted the age of the article. I missed that on first reading.

Geez Dusty, yer memory failing?

I remember that time and was concerned myself. That was when I began stockpiling parts which led to the beginnings of my 'museum'.

I blame MickyD to some extent(my objective was expanded from just getting one up & running).

I noticed the last post was over 4 years ago.(including yours)

I assume since you have not posted since that it is not possible.

Therefore it is not likely there is anyone to qualify/rescind the original 'article'.

Rant about it's timing etc. but not that there has been no 'correction'.

P.S. If 'they' are not surviving, whose server is being used?

What irritates me is that this article was even posted with the sort of smear comments that it contained. The website belonged to Woodsmith/Shop Notes. I do believe they should know better, should do better.

Letters to the editor can be very persuasive, especially when they get a lot with similar beefs.
