Well folks...

Well folks...
I have strayed away from the fray with dismay. I decided that my smithy needed to be strictly a SPT. I went to Rockler and bought a Nova Comet II Midi Lathe. It also has a Nova Comet II G3 reversible chuck. I then added a bed extension. Grand total out the door will be $710. I just never felt comfortable behind a 38 year old peice of equipment, with a spining projectile, hitting speeds of over 1k rpm's.

Looks good. I hope you are really pleased with it. But, be careful. You still have spinning projectiles and at 4000rpm no less..ExtraMile wrote:I have strayed away from the fray with dismay. Re: Well folks...
Could got an ER with a speed changer then there would be no guilt.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE EQUALS WISDOM. Albert Einstein
The Greatness officially starts
Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

Agreed, I don't only use my shopsmith, I have other tools that could be done on the shopsmith. I still would buy a sawstop table saw if I had the cash, not because I dislike shopsmith, but because of other factors.rpd wrote:No need to stay away, lots of us have other equipment in addition to our Shopsmiths, and I for one am interested to see what you come up with next.

I do want to see pictures of the Shiney new tool though.

Re: Well folks...
Unfortunately, I have not done much in my shop, for at least a few months. Our temps, are such a 'roller coaster' events and since my body is much like a barometric pressure gauge, I often ache so, I must wait until our weather even outs.
I have yet to get this lathe due to it is still on reserve.
Furthermore, I have finally secured an out of the city lifestyle and now all I need to do is, to located a camper/rv/mh where I can take up residence in.
Yes, I plan to LIVE in a camper, on leased land and in turn, I will be that said property, care taker (un paid, labor)
My interest in woodworking has not ceased. One day. I will move into a new space and try to pick up the pieces, where I left off, during the warmer months of 2016.

I hope you are in the deep south as trying to stay in an RV @ below freezing is a real challenge trying to keep water to it and drain holding tanks, along with virtually no insulation make them hard and expensive to heat.
