Those who have purchased a headstock from Shopsmith, was the box reusable for shipping a headstock again? Was it just bubble wrap inside or was there a special molded support system or some such thing? Thanks for your thoughts guys and gals.

I cannot give a true answer because I have never received a headstock from Shopsmith. However, I have received a lot of other items and I have never had anything arrive damaged. Their packing practices are excellent.

I sent one to them for tune up, and I believe it came with molded support that you could reuse. The one I sent UPS pack it so I don't know what they put in it. I am sure bubble wrap would not hold the weight.

I believe my PowerPro came with a lot of the thick brown paper rolled up and stuffed around it. It seemed to be supported pretty well.

My PP came with some crinkled up brown as well as some crinkle cut cardboard from old boxes.

I saved mine just in case I need it some time to ship a head stock. It is a heavy duty corrugated box. The packing is indeed brown paper but not just plain paper. It is multi layer packing material and lots of it. It was very well packed. There was also a rolled up piece of corrugated card board. The card board tubes were in the way tube holes presumably to keep the lock lined up. The packing material was not just wadded up and stuck in the box. Some of it was rolled into a cylinder and taped to hold its shape.
There was no molded support. I would certainly feel comfortable to reuse the box and the packing. After all that is why I saved it.

Yes, they can be reused to ship the headstock.

Thanks guys! I was thinking that perhaps SS used custom molded foam inserts or something like that to protect that costly precious cargo. It would be slick and reusable and I need to ship a headstock. But it appears they use careful packing methods and common, inexpensive packing materials, just like I will have to.

There was a whole bunch of that cushioning stuff under the head stock and a lot more around the sides and top. Mine arrived perfectly.

Thanks John. The pix were helpful too and I appreciate the extra effort to include them.
