My big brother has FINALLY seen the Light!

After over 10 years of NOT liking Shopsmiths, especially, MY version, my older brother has come around.

He wanted to try his hand at wood turning, and had asked me if he could "borrow" one of my Model 10s.
Spent yesterday and today setting it up in his shop. (3 car shop, which is NOT the garage.) Hooked it up,
re-wired the switch and power cord. (25 foot 12 gauge HF ext cord, $15. LOVE those 25% off coupons!)
Rigged up the speed-changer, and powered it up. Showed him how to turn, and he actually made something.

First thing I turned, was firewood. First thing my baby brother turned, again "turned" out to be kindling.
Big brother made a pretty decent french rolling pin! And, using chisels BADLY in need of a decent grind.

The interesting comment out of his mouth, while putting the whole thing together, "this thing is NOT a
woodworking tool. It's WAY overbuilt!" No, he doesn't like or need the weakest part of ANY Shopsmith,
(Model 10 is the worst) table saw, because his saw table is bigger than most people's dining room table.

So, I'm down one, but made a "convert."

Great story, Steve. My own big brother would be hard-pressed to use a Shopsmith for anything more challenging than a drink holder!

I'd never heard of a French rolling pin, but they look a pretty cool kitchen tool. I might still do one or two for Christmas gifts.
