Mark 2

I found this Mark 2 locally and the price was right so I bought myself a little present. I have plans for many of the parts. The jacobs chuck required a little work but once it was off I could remove the pulley cover. I was surprised it actually runs. It would not run at the seller's house. Letting it warm up over night seems to have helped a lot. Fun and interesting so far!

Take VERY good care of the belt cover!!!
Belt dressing will help.

Polishing the way tubes using Norton sponge abrasive 100, 180, 220. Pretty easy to do by hand even though I have not yet set up a lathe operation for that.

Not till you mentioned it. Thanks! I was wondering what the heck that bracket was for. Do you have a Mark 2?

I have 'pieces' put together as a portable.
No M2 headstock - use an old greenie headstock.
Made base that mounts on horses.
Have all the upper pieces except aux table/tail stock, but the Mark 5/V stuff all fits.
Some stuff a bit small, but it works.
Some folks look down on it and do so somewhat justifiably, but it is useful.
$ well invested IMHO.

I didn't realize the belt drive system simular to a 10ER. That's cool, like they were admitting that the 10ER drive was functional after all ....
I may have to go find one ....

Although the trunion is the same as a Mark 5, the mounting posts are 'smooth' and is secured by brass screws on each. Also the table raising crank Ala ER.
A 'modified' ER speed changer would be intriguing.
