Belt tension

My new motor i put in is not adjusted right i cant get it to spin as it acts like it is binding. i tested the motor it works fine. please advise. Thanks

I'm a little confused, it won't spin but you tested it and it works fine???

If you mean it starts and works on the bench but once you have it in the machine it won't, then I would first check to see if the whole drive train is bound.

If the drive train isn't bound then I would suspect your motor. If the starting coils aren't right it is possible the motor would start with no load but have a problem with a load.

Make sure your testing this with the speed control set to slow. And this might be the problem to install the drive belt the speed control is set to high and then the belt is removed. It is now possible that the new belt got stuck in the pulleys as you were turning the speed control back to slow. Try turning the drive train by hand.

As I understand the speed controler process the correct belt tension is automatic if the your high speed adjustment is correct. Even if it wasn't properly adjusted for high speed the belt should be correctly tensioned to allow the motor to spin the drive train.

I'm almost sure you have a bind in the drive train caused by a stuck belt.
Perhaps Bill Mayo will jump in here, I'm sure he has seen this before.

It was the idler pulley, the belt was on the shaft, so i had to get the belt off of there installed the sanding disk and rotated the motor counter clockwise simultaniusly with the speed control, then i was able to get the belt in to slow position. Thanks for all the Help.. to answer the question about if this was a new motor or an old motor. It was the original but u just set it in from a total rehaul. bearings, windings, dip, the full monty.

I am repainting the stand, as it had some minimal surface rust toward the bottom of the legs, from sitting in my buddies shop.

Does anyone know if there are original paint for this? I did find some texture paint similar at lowes i was a hammered finished no primer needed spray paint. I would also like to modify my wheels to a larger size width or height as the floor in the temp workshop needs sanding.
I know i will probably need to modify the foot drops.
