In past years I have given friends and employees turnings for Xmas. When we moved onto our boat years ago I stopped doing so due to not having a shop. Although I dearly needed a SS so many times on that boat. Now we are back ashore and my shop is back and suddenly everyone assumes they are getting wooden presents again. Now my wife knew about all these expectations. Me the lowly woodworker is the last to know Oh well. So I am going to have to crank out several turning in the next two days. I had this blank already glued up so I started it last night and got then first coat of Watco on. I will have to hollow it out tomorrow after the second coat dries. Today its scrounge through the wood and see what I can come up with !

I look forward to seeing what the inside looks like ....

The inside will be a my first trial of a new hollowing chisel. My old one which dates back to my father was made in the late 50's or early 60's and is reaching the end of its time. It has been sharpened hundreds of times and the dog leg is getting too short. I picked up a Sorby chisel yesterday at Woodcraft so we will see how it goes. It has the carbide insert tips which I have never used except for recently I put one on the duplicator and was very impressed with the performance.

BTW Paul, is the Watco you are using their Danish oil, or it that Polyurethane ...

Dick that is the Danish oil. I prefer it for most of my finishes except for exterior or on the boat. So I had to go back to Woodcraft to exchange a brad point drill set I bought the other day. At least one of the bits wobbled a good 1/16". Anyway I came across the ice cream scoop that another member had done here and figured I could make a quick present out of it. Hopefully I will get it done this evening. I found a chunk of spalded Koa in the bottom of one of the scrap bins so I cut it in half and glued it up last night.
