drive sheave and spindle assembly heating up on PP

Am wondering what could be the cause of drive sheave and spindle assembly heating up. Any input would be helpful, thanks. I've did a search on the forum but came up with nothing.

Check the tracking on the belt to insure it is vertically in-line and not loading the drive laterally which will cause friction and bearing wear.

Check the bearings to see if wear is becoming evident and that the spindle remains secured correctly in place.

Verify belt tension is not too tight.

"Heating up" well in normal use they do get warm. Warmer still if you are running at 10,000 rpm for extended amounts of time. I think we need more information to even start figuring out what if anything is wrong.

Belts to tight or to loose and slipping or perhaps misaligned are things that can happen but I have to wonder what makes you think you are in an abnormal situation?

If you are talking about the top of the headstock casting over the drive sleeve, then that is normal. If it is extremely hot (can't gold your hand on it for more than about 5 seconds) then something may be wrong. Hot can be normal depending on run time.

What is PP stand for? Power Pro?

Sorry, PP is for Power pro. As for doing a search on "headstock hot" I got one return, the one I posted. I thought it abnormal that the shafts were hot after runing the headstock at 10,000 rpm for about five minutes. Also the idler shaft was hot too not warm but hot. When I ran the hs at 3450 rpm for five minutes it did not heat up, thanks.

I forgot to mention, the belts seem to line up correctly. Not to sure about tightness. When I put it together I just followed the instructions. The PP is a 2010 SS refurbished, thanks.

I know nothing about the internals of a PP, just at a demo of one at Lowes, I assumed and ya I know, that it was a direct drive, DC controlled motor, no belts. As I think about it, for the other spindles there must be some connecting device, belts? Educate me?

It is the same setup basically as the MK V hs except there are no sheaves to control the speed of the spindle. Yes it is not a Drive Drive but uses the poly V belt to connect the spindle to the motor. That is about all I know on these PP headstocks. I do like the regular hs because they are much simpler to work on.

Thanks for the info/learning, cant help you, I know if not a PP most can, but most here dont have one, my thoughts are belt tension and bearings if you did not change upgrade for the new speed, discussed on another thread.
The one I think with a PP spindle with a lot of run out.
