I apologize if I am redundant in starting this thread but I made a good faith effort to review prior posts.
Since I do not have a product manual for my circa 1956 bandsaw I will use the current bandsaw parts manual as a guide to indicate description and reference number.
My question concerns ref no 56, item description = "auto-track roller bearing";
My bandsaw has a rubber sleeve over the roller which has finally(low mileage) shredded.
There is no replacement for this rubber sleeve(my description)at SS.
The 555074 Bandsaw Backup Roller Retrofit Kit states compatibility with serial numbers later than 97932, which would seem to disqualify my bandsaw from an upgrade.
Any suggestions?
Should I try to operate without the sleeve and just use the bare roller?

Please contact me,
bill.mayo@verizon.net for a solution. I have had good success with a Bandsaw Blade Guide Double Bearing Upgrade Package that I have fitted on the earlier Magna bandsaws with the backup roller bushing. Extra washers and a shim are included to help with the alignment.

I found an image on the internet that displays the "rubber sleeve" on the bearing.
It is the 3rd image at this site;

PS: I have a nice pic but I cannot meet the BBCode standards for posting it.

If there was a rubber sleeve over that rubber wheel it was added as a quick fix for some perceived problem. I replaced my bearings with the kit from Bill Mayo. You will need everything in the kit and it will require some tinkering with to get everything lined up but that is your best solution.

I do not think this is OEM. Notice the front edge of the blade is near the front edge of the tire. That is not normal.

Not so fast. I've got a saw of that vintage and it has a weird bearing there as well. Thought it was wrong. Then I looked at the old manual and it is a single roller bearing. Seen in this post.

The earlier Magna bandsaws used roller bushings to guide the saw blade at the auto track and the upper and lower blade guides. This solid bushing is not a bearing. There was no grove on any of roller bushings so you adjusted the roller bushings to track with the blade being centered on the bushing. People have removed the rubber sleeve and ran the blade on the bushing itself. It did increase the noise level. These bushings tend to stick on their shaft and result in loud noises.
